What are facial dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers work to enhance facial tissues, provide volume, reduce wrinkles, and smooth out fine lines. These treatments involve the strategic injection of fillers, often painless, by a blunt cannula into specific areas of the face, resulting in a smoother, fresh appearance.
What types of dermal filler are there?
There are many types of dermal fillers available and used by practitioners with each type of filler offering unique benefits.
The main type of dermal filler used is Hyaluronic Acid (HA) - HA is composed of a substance naturally found in the body and is used to address fine lines and wrinkles and add volume, Ideal for lip enhancement and contouring.
Another type of filler commonly used is Collagen-Based Fillers. Collagen-based fillers come in the form of bovine collagen, porcine collagen, and human-derived collagen. Collagen-based fillers are used to top up the body's own natural supply of collagen, improve the appearance of depressed (sunken) or hollow scars and as well used to gently plump up areas on the face such as lips and cheeks. Most collagen-based or collagen-enhancing fillers are recognized as semi-permanent treatments and can last for months to several years
The last type of substance commonly used is Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA). While PLLA does not immediately create volume or visual effects, it is a biocompatible synthetic substance that stimulates collagen production over time. This substance is effective for restoring loss of facial volume and encouraging collagen production in areas with creepy or sagging skin. PLLA (Sculptra) is a semi-permanent dermal filler that produces cosmetic results lasting for two-plus years.

The Results & Aftercare
While The impact of the filler is visible immediately after the treatment, Facial fillers take some time to settle into your skin & show their full effect, which happens around 10-14 days after your appointment.
There may be minimal swelling for 24 hours and very rarely some bruising. Results last 6-18 months depending on the area and viscosity of the filler used.
Do not touch the area for 3-4 hours after the procedure
Cleanse gently with antibacterial soap & water only
Avoid sleeping on the areas treated for 24-48 hours
Avoid using make-up for at least 24 hours
Avoid consuming alcohol for at least 24 hours
Avoid getting any waxing, or facial treatments for at least two weeks
Avoid excessive sun exposure or tanning until any redness or swelling initially caused by the injection resolves
